I deceided to post a question on my Facebook page that says: "Who all has seen the YouTube video by Rebecca Black called "Friday"?"
The reason that I chose this question is because I wanted to see the power of social networking and how fast negative media attention will travel. This video is a 13 year old girl who had someone produce a song for her and it is so bad that she has over 30 million hits on YouTube because of it. The sad part is that the cyber-bullying is at a very high level with people sending her messages stating she is the worst singer ever and she she hurt herself!
My project was semi-successful. I had around 15 people respond. Eight had never seen the video and seven HAD seen the video. What was cool to watch was the people who had not seen the video all were from Blacksburg. This showed me that the word has probably not traveled to Blacksburg quite as fast. It was funny to see some of the responses people had. They were writing lyrics to her song on their post and saying things like: "I want that two minutes back of my life" and "Unfortunatley yes, I have seen it!"
I thought this was a fun question and would also give me the chance to see how fast social networking works! Last Wednesday Rebecca Blacks video only had 7 million hits on YouTube, now there are 33 million! Have you watched this video?
Did you see the version of "Friday" that Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon performed? It was outstanding.
